❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the Snow Day Calculator?

Our calculator uses official NOAA historical data spanning 1991-2020 for US cities and Environment Canada data from 1981-2010 for Canadian cities. While no prediction is 100% accurate, our algorithm considers multiple factors to provide probability estimates based on real meteorological data.

What data sources do you use?

We use data from: National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), National Weather Service, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

How many inches of snow typically causes school closures?

This varies significantly by region. In the Northeast (like Buffalo, NY), schools may stay open with 6+ inches. In Southern cities like Atlanta, even 1-2 inches can cause closures. Our calculator accounts for these regional differences.

Can I check any city in the US or Canada?

We currently cover major cities in all 50 US states and all Canadian provinces. We're continuously adding more cities. If your city isn't listed, try the nearest major city for a close estimate.
